- Create a debug information file for the program containing the data division you want to use for the new record layout file.
                  See 
                  		  To create a debug information (.idy) file for layout file input for instructions. 
                  		
               
- If you haven't compiled your DBD file since last making changes to it, compile it now. 
                  		
               
- Start the Segment Layout Editor. See 
                  		  To start the Segment Layout Editor for instructions. 
                  		
               
- To find out how to add segment layouts to the segment layout file, see the 
                  		  To define segment layouts. 
                  		
               
- When you have finished, click 
                  		  File > Save to save the segment layout file. 
                  		  
                  The folder defaults to the folder containing the IMS database. The filename defaults to the same name as the IMS database
                     name with a 
                     			 .slf 
                        			 extension. 
                     		  
                   
- Click 
                  		  Save. 
                  		
               
- To close the Segment Layout Editor, click 
                  		  File > Close. 
                  		
               
Note:  As long as you retain the default settings when you save the segment layout file, the IMS Database Editor loads the file
               automatically with the database.
