View the Data File Formatted

To view the records formatted, you must apply the structure file to the data file, which you do when opening the data file.

  1. datavseq.dat should still be open in Data File Editor; if it isn't, open it again.
  2. On the Structure menu, click Load Structures.
  3. Use the Open dialog to navigate to and open datavseq.str.

    The record layouts within the structure file are applied to the records:

  4. Scroll through the records, and notice how the layout changes depending on the value in the MN-POSITION, EX-POSITION, and EM-POSITION fields.
Note: If you did have to open the data file again, because you saved the structure file with the same name as the data file, and in the same location, it was already selected in the Structure File (optional) field, and so automatically applied to the data file. (If you had saved the structure file elsewhere or named it differently, you would need to click Browse and select it.)
